Manchester Marathon Effort
Sarah Barker and a group of friends are competing in the Manchester Marathon on 2 April to raise funds for Alice House Hospice in memory of Sarah’s Mam, Elizabeth Dobell.
Sarah said “Liz’s Marathon Army will be taking on the enormous task of completing the Manchester Marathon for a wonderful soul and my beautiful Mam.
“My Mam asked us to do something to support the Hospice because she knew and valued the work they carry out. So far we have raised just over £5,000! We hope that goes some way in helping another family experience the support, compassion and dignity Alice House offer.”
“In June last year my Mam was welcomed into Alice House for pain management after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. She loved it! The place, the staff, her gorgeous room and most definitely the food! She would often say to her friends and family that she couldn’t believe that she was entitled to such care and consideration.”
“Alice House gave her time to enjoy her days without thinking about the terminal cancer label she had been given. She enjoyed time with her nearest and dearest focusing on things she wanted to do because the staff had effectively dealt with her pain and she felt human again. The quality of life she gained left us all eternally grateful to the hospice and the staff. We got our special lady back and her wonderful laugh.”
From The Dobell Family and Liz’s Marathon Army I would like to express a heartfelt thank you!
Janice Forbes, the Hospice’s Community Fundraiser said:
“On behalf of everyone at the Hospice I would like to say a huge thank you to Liz’s Marathon Army and wish them the very best of luck with the run. The money raised so far is an incredible achievement and will be used to fund the care services that we pride ourselves on delivering.
Without people like Liz and her friends, we would not be able to sustain these services, so this type of support is vital to our patients.
This is a remarkable tribute to Elizabeth and I hope that the team feel proud to be doing such a fantastic thing in her memory.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Liz’s Marathon Army can do so by going to their online fundraising page.
