Complementary Therapies available to all
Alice House Hospice provides a range of Complementary Therapy Services which are accessible by anyone, regardless of whether or not you are a patient at the Hospice.
Here we meet a lady who has been attending the Day Care Service for 3 years since she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
79 year old Ada King attends the Day Care Service in order to allow her 70 year old husband Larry some time to himself; today he is at home painting and decorating!
Ada said, “When I come into Day Care the atmosphere is always excellent. I get spoilt by everyone and made to feel special.”
There are always a range of activities available which might include crafts and card making, bingo, quizzes and games, all alongside the usual chatter which naturally flows. I love to get my nails done by Emma (Complementary Therapist), I feel fantastic and young when I get my favourite colour put on. Even if I didn’t come to the Day Care, I think I would still want to come and have them done, it’s so lovely to be pampered.”Complementary Therapist, Emma Sanderson said, “We offer a wide range of treatments which include aromatherapy, reflexology and various different types of massage alongside some beauty therapies. Complementary Therapies offer many benefits, which can include: promoting relaxation, reduction in stress and tension in the mind and body, uplifting mood and providing an increased sense of wellbeing, aiding pain relief, improving sleep patterns and/or quality of sleep, relieving specific symptoms such as muscle aches or constipation, boosting circulation, improving skin condition, boosting self-esteem and providing comfort and support.”
