Liz’s marathon army raise over £8,500
Sarah Barker and her friends who together made up Liz’s Marathon Army, completed the Manchester Marathon on 2 April in memory of Sarah’s mam Elizabeth who was cared for at Alice House Hospice.
“Alice House, you have were instrumental in giving my Mam her life back and I hope that our fundraising can demonstrate a small proportion of our thankfulness! The biggest thank you comes from my Mam. I know she would be so proud and grateful to you all!”

“Last year my beautiful mam asked me to run the Manchester Marathon to raise money for Alice House. I was quite fortunate that some amazing friends tagged along for the ride, John Barker, Daisy Rea, Kirsty Fisher, Justin Keegan, Ross Pygall and Graeme Lumsden and on 2 April we all completed the 26.2 mile course. I can’t describe how hard it was and the pain that we all felt but at the bottom of my heart I knew it didn’t come close to pain my mam endured.”
“We have collected the last of our sponsorship money and have raised over £8,500, which is absolutely amazing and almost unbelievable. The total will go a long way in helping other families have some quality time with their loved ones at the most difficult time in their lives.”
“Along the way we’ve had some great help from Frank Intafitness and his lovely members as well as the members of Jupiter Gym. Without the amazing community of Easington this would not have been possible. We’ve got some beautiful souls in our community! Thank you also to Peterlee Running Club and our fantastic coach Colin. You’ve been there for me since January and ensured I crossed the line.”
“Thank you to all of you involved and all of you who have been so generous with your donations, some coming from as far as the USA! Together we’ve achieved something great.”

“On behalf of everyone at Alice House Hospice, I would like to say a huge thank you to Liz’s Marathon Army for raising such an incredible amount. Sarah should be extremely proud of herself in both her fundraising and completing the Marathon and hope she is able to feel some comfort in the fact that she has helped other patients in her mother’s name.”
