Specialist Nurses

Alice House Hospice continuously strives to ensure we meet the needs of our communities as much as possible. Hospice UK have launched their programme to ‘Open up Hospice care’ in recognition of the fact that 1:4 people who could access hospice care, can’t access hospice care.

Currently only around 18% of Alice House patients have a non-cancer diagnosis and the team want to improve on this statistic and support more people with non-cancer palliative illnesses.

Tracy Woodall, Hospice Chief Executive, said

“We have recruited a team of Specialist Nurses who will address this imbalance.  We have been very fortunate to be able to recruit specialist nurses for Respiratory, Heart Failure and Dementia. We did not manage to recruit nurses with specialism in Neurological and Learning Disabilities but we are thinking of creative ways in which to support these groups of patients. In addition we are also recruiting a Specialist Nurse Educator to support all of our staff to increase and maintain the highest level of clinical knowledge possible.”

“Once the Specialist Nurses are up and running they will be linking with other providers to see how best we can deliver services that complement rather than replicate services which are already available. Our nurses will be running their own clinics and developing ways in which their patients can access our services in a way which adds value to their lives. This is a really exciting time at the Hospice and we are clear in our vision that everyone should benefit from the outstanding care available through our services.”
