Another new service on its way…

Day services at Alice House Hospice’s Holistic Wellbeing Centre continue to grow as more people start to appreciate the excellent services on offer.

As a result of this an additional day has recently been added, however requests are still coming in from some people who, because of their complex health problems, find it difficult to access traditional day care places.

“We are now developing a Complex Needs Social Day which will run on Mondays which will be able to support people who cannot be supported elsewhere.”

Tracy Woodall, Hospice Chief Executive

Tracy Woodall, Hospice Chief Executive, said, “We are now developing a Complex Needs Social Day which will run on Mondays which will be able to support people who cannot be supported elsewhere.”

Tracy continued, “The lead focus of this ‘Complex Needs Social Day’ is to address a person’s social needs whilst ensuring that they also have the required level of health care support.  Some examples of the illness’ and symptoms we can manage are: unstable diabetes, tracheostomy care, epilepsy and PEG feeding. During the day a qualified nurse will always be on hand to help with your needs and you will also have access to a Nurse Practitioner if required – these are nurses with additional qualifications which allow them to assess, diagnose, treat and prescribe for any new or unstable conditions that you might develop. The staff to patient ratio on this day will be higher than our other social days to account for the higher dependencies of those attending.”

“Physical health is only one aspect to good all round health and a good social life helps avoid anxiety and depression, often a symptom of isolation and loneliness. Good psychological health is vital to enable you to live life to the full.”

“At Alice House, long term friendships are formed and love has even blossomed ending in marriage. Our staff focus activities around what you want to do and you could even join our recently formed Chicken Club.”

“Transport and bathing facilities are available if mobility is an issue and you find it hard to get around or have a proper bath.”
