Hospice hens are laying!

Alice House Hospice recently took ownership of 4 lovely Hospice Hens as part of a project which has been funded with a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

These hens have been resident in the Holistic Wellbeing Centre gardens since the beginning of October this year and have now started to regularly lay eggs, much to the delight of the members of the Chicken Club.

The Chicken Club is a group of staff and volunteers who have been helping to care for the hens since they arrived, taking on the weekly task of mucking out and checking feed and water for the ‘ladies’.

The members of the club can take home the eggs, in return for a nominal donation which is used to help pay for the corn for the hens.

Rebecca Jobson, Senior Fundraising Manager said,“There is a sense of anticipation each morning when a member of the Club checks the henhouse for the next batch of freshly laid eggs.  There have been eggs a plenty at our house; poached, fried, baked into cakes – the possibilities are endless!”

The Henpower project has been made possible with a grant from
the National Lottery Community Fund

You too can become a Chicken Club volunteer if you can spare a little time each week.  All you need to do is contact Rebecca Jobson on 01429 855555 or email her at rjobson@alicehousehospice.co.uk.
