Ukelele group support Hospice

Hartlepool Ukulele Group (HUG) recently presented Alice House Hospice with a cheque for £1,500.

The group, who currently have 25 members, play at old people homes and clubs around Hartlepool; they never charge for their performances but do ask for donations for the Hospice.

“The Hospice is such a fabulous local charity and many of our members have had friends or family members who have used their services, so it is important for us to support.”

Alan Altringham

Alan Altringham, treasurer of HUG, said “The group was formed on 12th January 2012 by Geoff Lilley in St Matthews Hall, Elwick Road. Our first gig was in the foyer at Tesco and a collection was taken for Alice House Hospice; donations for all gigs since have been presented to the Hospice.  We now meet in the Athenaeum, Church Street at 7pm every Thursday; new members are always welcome to come along and give it a go.”

“The Hospice is such a fabulous local charity and many of our members have had friends or family members who have used their services, so it is important for us to support.”

Janice Forbes, Community Fundraiser at the Hospice, “It is always a pleasure to meet the Hartlepool Ukulele Group, they are such a happy and lovely bunch of people.  To date they have handed an incredible £10,000 to hospice to care for patients and families here at Alice House.”
