Hospice 24 Hour Helpline

At Alice House Hospice we recognise and understand the need for support when living at home with a life-limiting illness and that this need can come at any time.

Our 24 Hour Helpline which is staffed by specialist Nurses and Doctors provides help, support and guidance whenever it is needed. The service is available to everyone regardless of whether or not they have a connection with the Hospice.

For a carer or patient the value of a calm reassuring voice offering help in the middle of the night cannot be underestimated. Healthcare professionals caring for patients at home, in hospital, care homes or another hospices may also access specialist support and advice in the management of a patient’s ongoing specialist palliative care needs at any time.

The service was created to reduce unnecessary visits by a doctor and to A & E which could result in an unplanned hospital admission, causing distress and discomfort for the patient and further strain on an already overstretched NHS.

Last year a total of 130 people were given advice and reassurance. 71% of calls were from healthcare professionals so in these cases the Helpline helped the caller, the patient and the patient’s carer. 42% of callers needed medication advice, 26% help with general symptoms management and 10% psychological support.

The Hospice 24 Helpline number is: 01429 855558
