Team Sally raise £25,000 in four years for Alice House
Alice House Hospice supporter Phil Holbrook and his team of runners, collectively known as Team Sally have raised £25,000 for the local charity in just four years.
“Phil and his team are an incredible example to people of what can be achieved."
Greg Hildreth, Hospice Fundraiser
Phil’s wife Sally sadly died in a car accident in December 2012 which left Phil critically injured. Both Phil and Sally were runners and Hospice supporters, having taken part in several Great North Runs. As part of Phil’s continuous recovery, he gradually returned to running and was ready to take part in his favourite event once again in September 2014 with a group of friends under the name of Team Sally.
Since the team started they have taken part in five Great North Runs, averaging an incredible £5,000 in sponsorship each time. The team has had up to 25 members, with Phil Holbrook, Phil Dunn and Nicola Davies taking part every year.
The team has also included Land’s End to John O’Groats runner Lee Dodgson, Paul Brennen the Hartlepool born actor and life long friend of Phil, Hartlepool United players Tommy Miller and Tony Sweeny, along with Academy Manager John Hewitson and team mascot H’Angus.
Greg Hildreth, a fundraiser at Alice House said “Phil and his team are an incredible example to people of what can be achieved. Their dedication to the Hospice is wonderful and it has been great working with them over the years. The money they have raised has been used to help so many patients and families to get the care they need.”
Phil said “I’d like to thank everyone who has helped the team to flourish over the years. It has been, and will continue to be, an absolute pleasure.”
