A great new event for 2020

Alice House Hospice are collaborating with a number of local supporters to host their first ever Cycle A Marathon event on the beautiful Hart to Haswell Walkway.

The 26.2 mile sponsored bike ride is open to over 16s and takes place on Sunday 1 March, when riders will meet at Barnard Grove Primary School and then make their way to the Hart to Haswell bike track via Ocean Road.

This beautiful disused railway line extends north from Hart Station towards Haswell. The site is managed by the Countryside Team and Volunteers and contains a mosaic of habitats including woodland, butterfly glades and ponds. It forms part of Sustrans National Cycle Network (Route 14) and is accessible by bike or on foot.

The route takes cyclists up towards Dalton Park and back to the start point where they will receive refreshments and a medal for completing the course. All riders will also receive an e-certificate. The route is also going to be marshalled by volunteers, including members of Hartlepool Round Table.

As well as being supported by Barnard Grove, the event is also co-organised by SMB Training and #TeamSally, the latter of whose founder, Phil Holbrook will be taking part on a tandem and is currently in training for this.

Phil founded #TeamSally in memory of his wife Sally who sadly lost her life in a car accident in 2012 and which also left Phil with critical and life changing injuries. Phil is a regular supporter of Alice House and has raised in excess of £25,000 for the charity in less than a decade. Throughout 2019-20 Phil is completing 12 fundraising challenges for Alice House in the build-up to his 60th birthday in September.

Greg Hildreth of Alice House Hospice said “We are really pleased to be hosting what I hope will become an annual event and bring a new audience of supporters to the Hospice. It has had a great response so far and I would like to show my appreciation to SMB, #TeamSally and Barnard Grove School, who have all been fantastic to work with.  As always, everything raised from the event will be used to fund local hospice care.”

Entry is only £10 per rider and includes a Ride Medal and refreshments.

Fundraising | The £10.00 registration fee covers the event costs.  The real fundraising comes from your sponsorship which goes towards providing care.  Every £12.50 raised helps to give an hour’s pain relief and care for a patient, how many hours will you help fund with your friends and family?
