A Close Shave For Alice House

While Alice House Hospice fundraising events have been postponed and shops have been closed, both sources of vital funds for the charity, local support for the charity has never been clearer than right now.

The fad started with school children getting ‘lockdown haircuts’ and sharing videos and photos online.

Now, unable to get to the barbers or hairdressers, the newest craze is for people to shave their heads completely and raise sponsorship for Alice House at the same time, knowing that when lockdown finishes their hair will be mostly grown back!

So far 5 supporters (at time of print) have shaved their heads in return for donations from their friends and family made through a Facebook fundraiser,  these 5 budding baldies have already managed to raise over £3,400 for Alice House!

One of the brave shavers was Krimo Bouabda who raised over £1,000 in 24 hours.

Krimo said, “A few years ago, I photoshopped myself with a shaven head.  It looked ok, a bit like that guy off Hot Chocolate a few people said;I wish!  So, during this confinement, I decided to do it for real.  This could be an opportunity when my hair would grow back before I get out of the house. I do venture out on my bike but I either wear a dut or a helmet, so I thought, let’s do it!

He added (on his fundraising page), “ If you want to see a photo of me with my head shaved, you’ll have to donate some money to Alice Hospice; any amount you want, every little helps, and I will post the photo on Sunday.”

Another shaver, Sam Milburn said, “Due to the current situation and neither my mam or dad being competent with a pair of scissors I’ll be shaving my head … now I know a lot of people have done this recently but I’d still like to have a reason behind it, that’s why I’m raising funds for Alice House Hospice,  a charity close to me and my family and it will make me feel that bit better about losing my hair.”

A third shaver, Steve Hart said, “For those who know me well, I’ve been through some cracking hair styles and now it’s time for another.  In these awful times I want to try and raise some money for Alice House so I’ve told Harry (my son) if I can raise £100 or more he can shave my hair off!  I know money may be tight but if you can spare £1 for this brilliant local charity it would be appreciated.”

Steve added, after the shave, that he was so proud to call everyone who donated, his mates!

Rebecca Jobson, Senior Manager Communications said, “It is overwhelming to see the support Alice House has and I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who has made a donation or set up a FB Fundraiser!

These 5 budding baldies have done an amazing job at raising much needed funds and in response to the current appetite for head shaving we have decided to launch “Shave Your Hair for Hospice Care”, an online fundraising opportunity for anyone wishing to follow suit and go shiny ready for the summer. “

Simply go to the  Shave Your Hair for Hospice Care Fundraiser  where you can create a personalised fundraising profile to share online with your friends and family and then set a date for the shave and share your photos once you’ve braved the clippers.
