Tuk Tukking from Aberdeen to Hartlepool
A gentleman from Aberdeen will be driving his Tuk Tuk all the way to Hartlepool to raise funds for Alice House
Robert Carmichael, from Aberdeen and Jan Dunn, Healthcare Assistant at Alice House met through a love of Northern Soul. Jan has been a great source of support for Robert following his diagnosis of prostate cancer.
It was his love of Northern Soul that first brought Robert to a venue in Hartlepool.
“I met some lovely, like minded people and developed friendships with many that I have had the pleasure of catching up with at various venues around Co. Durham.
During the last 6 months I have been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer; I’m now into my fifth week of recovery.
During this time I’ve had support from Jan at the Northern Soul nights – funnily enough one of the clubs is called The Supporters!
Her support has helped me understand that there is a high rate of survival, I won’t be ill and once I’m recovered I will be able to dance again to Northern Soul.
During our chats Jan told me more about Alice House and the work that staff there do to support patients and their families and help them process grief in a healthy way.
With this in mind, I want to be able to give something back to the Hospice where Jan works. I am lucky, my surgery is healing, mentally I’m recovering and that is all due to the support I’ve received from family and friends like Jan.
Apart from spinning to Northern Soul on the dance floor, I also like to run classic scooters and tuk tuk’s (rickshaws), so I will be driving from Aberdeen to Hartlepool to meet Jan and the Hospice staff at their Colour Run and Fun day and hopefully raise some funds along the way!
It’s a total of 175 miles which, at 45 miles per hour, will make it quite a journey.
“I will be travelling from Aberdeen to Edinburgh via Dundee along the coastal roads; from Edinburgh I’ll take the Jedburgh Road to Newcastle and then down to Hartlepool, come and say HI if you see me!”
