Captain’s Charity raises almost £10,000

Long term Alice House Hospice supporters at Hartlepool Golf Club have just handed over a donation to the local charity of nearly £10,000 after being nominated as the Captain’s Charity.

2022-23 Captain Gary Carruthers chose the Hospice and spent the last year raising funds for the charity as part of his official duties. In February of this year, he invited Greg Hildreth from Alice House to accept the donation of £9,150.

The money was raised from a number of activities including a Coast-to-Coast bike ride, Northern Soul nights and the Great North Run. Alice House has enjoyed a close relationship with the club and its members for many years, which has helped generate well over £120,000 for local Hospice care.

Greg, who works as Business and Communications Senior Manager for Alice House said, “Sending huge thanks and congratulations to Gary on behalf of everyone at the Hospice for the incredible fundraising he has organised over the past year. As always, the club members and their families were hugely generous; another wonderful donation from a fantastic organisation, which is extremely warm towards the work of Alice House.

On a personal note, I’ve been working with the club for the past fourteen years and would like to thank them for yet another warm welcome and lovely afternoon of hospitality. As well as spending time with Gary and his family, it was also great to catch up with a few old friends and past-Captains.”

Gary said, “I would just like to say thank you to all members of the Golf Club who have taken part in various events to raise money and also to all non-members who raised money for Alice House Hospice; it has been absolutely amazing to see such generosity in hard times.”
