Long Term Unit – repurposing of space

In March, Alice House Hospice announced the closure of its Long-Term Care Unit, in order to safeguard its main services, which take place in and around the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit.

The space has been re-purposed for a number of different things:

These changes have also enabled us to introduce a new family room, which enables a more comfortable overnight stay for families – this means that relatives of patients can stay close by and in pleasant and comfortable surroundings.

The Long-Term Care Unit was fitted with a new kitchen earlier this year which is now being used as a staff room for members of the Alice House Clinical Team, including Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, who now have a place of comfort and reflection for their well-earned breaks.

The Long-Term Care Unit now provides a base for the Specialist Palliative Care Team Community Staff, who are part of the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. The team work in the unit from Monday to Friday. It’s great to work with the team, who are doing a great job and we love having them in the building.
