Local crossfit gym works out for Alice house

Local Crossfit Gym, Evolve Hartlepool have donated £4,000 to Alice House from their yearly Christmas Challenge

Owner of Evolve Hartlepool, Matthew Richardson alongside gym member Aaron Myers enjoy inventing and hosting a yearly Christmas Challenge as a way to raise money for those less fortunate at a time when giving is at the forefront of people’s minds.

The challenge for 2022 was a twenty four hour, round the clock fitness work out known as the “MURPH” – for those who aren’t in the know about Crossfit – this consists of a one mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 press ups, 300 squats and another 1 mile run.  The brutal workout was completed non stop in pairs, in many cases without sleep and saw some teams completing up to 23 rounds in the 24 hour period.

“15 teams took part in the challenge with many other gym members calling in to support by completing one or two rounds. The age group of the team members ranged from 14 to 70 years old which is an incredible statistic and children as young as 4 also came down to take part.

“After the challange was created we set our sights on raising money for two causes. We wanted to contribute to a local charity, of which my family members have a close affiliation to; we were also made aware of a young girl by the name of Elsa who was in need of support to purchase some medical equipment that would help to dramatically improve her quality of life.

The quote of the event came from Matty himself If we knew that the work that we put in would increase the quality of the life for others by just 1%, we would do this every week.”

The Evolve Crossfit Gym has an amazing community full of selfless people and I am so grateful that they have opportunity to be apart of it. The support and donations we received from everyone was overwhelming. In total we raised In excess of £19,000 and it give us real pleasure to donate £4,000 of that to Alice House.

Aaron Myers, Evolve Crossfit

This was an outstanding effort from a group of truly dedicated people.  This kind of community support and team effort is what makes our supporters extra special.  On behalf of all our patients and their families I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of you.
