Three members of Alice House staff took part in the Great North Run to raise funds for the charity. These were Healthcare Assistant, Rebecca Greenwell; Clinical Lead, Paula Tempest and Corporate Fundraiser, Greg Hildreth.
Alice House supporter, runner and volunteer Phil Holbrook was recognised for his fundraising and other services to Alice House at the pre-Great North Run pasta meal held at the Hospice on 7 September.
Phil has been involved with Alice House for many years and founded Team Sally who take part in the Great North Run every year, as well as other fundraising and voluntary projects.
Golfers came together to play in a charity tournament in aid of Alice House Hospice at Eaglescliffe Golf Club on 13 September, raising almost £10,000 for the local charity.
The golf day was co-organised with LFF Glamal, based at Wynyard and sponsored by Mayfield Insurance in Hartlepool. A further 18 companies sponsored a hole each on the course and the day was supported by Barclaycard Commercial who allowed staff members to volunteer in work time and also donated £2,000 in matched funding.
A local business and patron of Alice House, J & B Recycling have pledged to sponsor one of the charity’s most loved events for the second consecutive year.
The waste management company, based on Thomlinson Road are once again backing the annual Moonlight Walk, where people raise sponsorship to walk from the Museum of the Royal Navy to Seaton Carew Golf Club and back.
Hospice UK has welcomed the Government’s pledge for extra short-term financial support for charitable hospices in England in recognition of the challenges they are facing.
"We are especially pleased that the Prime Minister and Matt Hancock have committed to working with us all to agree more sustainable hospice funding in the future."
