Years of Support

Today we met Freda Welch, a lovely lady who has supported Alice House Hospice in so many ways over the years.  This is Freda’s story…

Freda remembers the work of the original group of Hospice Fundraisers, remembers the start of the Hospice in Hutton Avenue and had raised funds herself while she was still in full time work.

Supporter Day Roadshow 2017

Supporters who attended the 2nd annual Supporter Roadshow at the Hartlepool College of Further Education were treated to talks to from staff from Alice House Hospice.

Norah’s Story

"This place gave Norah her life back.”

After a trip to visit her family in Australia in 2013, Norah was referred for an endoscopy and CT scan for continuing bowel problems.  The devastating results were that she had a tumour on her right lung and that it was small cell cancer.

Gary Pearson raises money for the Hospice, hear why…

My mother struggled with a disease called ‘body inclusion myosotis’ until she sadly passed away on Wednesday 24th March 2016.

Her condition was not classed as a terminal disease but it completely took away her muscle function.  Mam’s fingers were virtually useless, her muscles weakened and the weight began to drop off her but despite all this she carried on regardless, with a smile most of the time.

How do our Nurse Practitioners help?

Alice House Nurse Practitioners, Helen and Lindsey, work closely with patients providing ongoing physical and psychological support.  Ed's story demonstrates the importance of their work more clearly than simply describing the varied and complicated tasks and procedures they carry out on a daily basis ever could.

Ed was diagnosed witha condition known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) on the 29th August 2016 following a visit to the doctor due to feeling 'weary' for a period of time.
